You Are Perfect

God has made it known that we are perfect. The question is, do you know you are?

PERFECT

PROPHECY:

Thus Says The LORD,

When I created you, I did not see sinfulness. I saw perfection. When I made you, I loved you and wanted you for Myself. Love covers a multitude of sins. No matter the flaw, no matter the sin, you are always considered perfect in My eyes.

It is easy to see your mistakes, the sin you committed. The guilt you hold onto reminds you of your past. Though, nothing you have done, leaves a permanent stain. For I made it possible that all heaven stands witness to your holiness.

Only by Me is one redeemed and purified. Cleansed and made righteous. By yielding to My Holy Spirit, who leads you to repentance through Jesus, you receive forgiveness that surpasses all understanding. Leaving you in a place of holiness where you are free from all guilt and shame.

When I the LORD forgive, I remember no sin. I set you free from all judgement. Whom the Son of Man sets free, is free indeed. Forever cleansed from all sin and shame. A promise I will keep until My return.

Says the LORD.

MESSAGE:

The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of perfect is:
being entirely without fault or defect: flawless

To understand what Jesus meant when He used the word perfect. We must understand the definition from God's perspective. Only then can we understand how God can call a person perfect.

The word that God uses to in scripture for perfect is τέλειος teleiós, tel'-i-os
This is a Greek word that means complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character. It is summed up as being full of age, man, perfect.

We see with this word, moral character is God's method for measuring perfection.

In Matthew 5:48, we read "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

This verse can better translated, be of moral character, just as your Father in Heaven is morally.

This shows us that it is not about mistake, rather, the morals a person lives by.

It must be understood that God is not talking about a sinless person, one who has never sinned. Rather, a person who has sinned and is considered perfect. How is this possible? Why would Jesus say while teaching on loving your enemies, end with be perfect?

Is it possible to be perfect? Short answer is Yes. You can be perfect right now on earth in the eyes of God.

It must be understood, that no one will ever achieve perfection on earth, without God. The following verse of all things are possible with God is not limited to entering the Kingdom of Heaven.

Mark 10:27 (NKJV)

[27] But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

Remember, it must not be seen as only referring to entering the Kingdom of Heaven, rather, all aspects of life where it is not possible to achieve anything unless God is involved. This includes achieving perfection that Jesus communicates.

We see the same word used later in Matthew 19:21 (NKJV)

[21] Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

How can this someone be perfect by selling possessions and giving to the poor?

If Jesus, being God, commands that we be something we are unable to be, then He has given an unrealistic expectation. Is this what Jesus did? No.

Has anyone ever been considered perfect in the Bible? Yes.

NOAH & ABRAM (ABRAHAM)

Genesis 6:9 (NKJV)

Noah Pleases God
[9] This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

Here we see the Bible calling Noah perfect. A man like you who did sin and is recorded as being naked and drunk.

Genesis 9:20-22 (NKJV)
[20] And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. [21] Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. [22] And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

Was Noah perfect, without sin? No. Yet, the Bible says Noah was perfect.

Looking at the Hebrew word for perfect used in Genesis 6:9. We see again, it is not about sinlessness, but moral integrity.

Hebrew word from Strong’s Concordance 8549. תָּמִים tāmı̂ym, taw-meem'; From 8552; entire (literally, figuratively or morally); also (as noun) integrity, truth.

:--without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sincerely (-ity), sound, without spot, undefiled, upright (-ly), whole.

God also told Abram before his name changed to Abraham in Genesis 17:1 (KJV)
[17:1] And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

God does not give commands unless it is possible. Therefore, Abram, a man who is known to have worshipped idols, is told to be perfect, not sinless.

SIN NO MORE

To find the answer to how God can command someone who has sinned to be perfect, is only found when looking at other statements made by Jesus. To understand what God has been communicating in the Bible, we must examine the word used in various verses to have full understanding.

Let’s look at the man healed at the Pool of Bethesda

In John 5:14 (NKJV) we read:
[14] Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”

What does it mean to “sin no more”? Faultless, nothing wrong with you. Perfect like Jesus. The only person who walked the earth and never sinned.

Jesus here told a person to be sinless. How can Jesus tell a person to sin no more?

We also read about the women caught in adultery to sin no more. In John 8:11 (NKJV) we read: [11] She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Has Jesus communicated a lie? How can Jesus command a person to never sin, and expect them to achieve it?

Remember, with God, all things are possible. If we understand that it is possible, and not think of perfection as never making a mistake, sinlessness. Then we can see the power of sanctification.

HOLINESS, SANCTIFICATION

2 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,

1 Corinthians 1:30 (NKJV)
[30] But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—

Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)
[13] He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, [14] in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

These verses communicate that sanctification is only accomplished through Jesus, by the Holy Spirit and belief in the truth. By Jesus, we receive righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, ultimately the forgiveness of sin.

This is why you are seen by God as being perfect. Blameless. You are complete, perfectly undefiled by sin, purified by the blood of Jesus. You are redeemed and justified, never to receive condemnation for any fault.

It is easy to feel like our past makes us not good enough. That something we have done, makes us unusable, leaves us without a purpose. God could not call me to do anything. Guilt weighs us down making us feel condemned.

Romans 8:1 is not only regarding the removal of condemnation. It is about being perfect in the eyes of God. If you had a flaw, the Law of God would condemn you.

Romans 8:1-2 (NKJV)
[8:1] There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 2:12 (NKJV)
[12] For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law [13] (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;

How is it then, that you can be perfect? Through repentance.

Once a person repents God separates their sin from them as far as the east is from the west.

Psalms 103:12 (NKJV)
[12] As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

God also promises to never remember our sins, faults, wickedness.

Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV)
[12] “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

When God forgives a person, it is as if they are as Jesus, perfect. Just as Jesus is sinless, so are all those who repent. There is nothing for God to see but righteousness.

Therefore, the only way to be perfect in life, is to repent. Only God can give a person the claim of being perfect, which is only done by believing in the Son of God, Jesus Christ who shed His blood as the final sacrifice to forever remove sin from those who believe.

When a person refuses to repent, they are choosing the live in pride. God orchestrated everything so all people will be dependent on Him.

Hebrews 9:22 (NKJV)
[22] And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

Hebrews 9:26 (NKJV)
[26] He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. [27] And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, [28] so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

When we choose to see life through God’s perspective, our frailty is diminished. All of heaven can scream about your wickedness. Your sinfulness. Though no matter how true it would seem to be. God turns all statements made about your sin, into accusations. Then deems the accusations as false. For God has promised to not remember any of your sins the moment you repent. This in turn makes you a perfect person.

Unless a person is perfect, they will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Sinfulness is not permitted in Heaven. This is what it means when the blood washes away our sins. We have been cleansed, made white as snow. There is no longer any defect.
